Structural engineers are investigating to determine the precise cause of the collapse.

Fire Brigade 4225089 1280

KMMO reported on a partial collapse of Tyson’s grain elevator west of Sedalia, Missouri, occurred on Friday afternoon, according to Pettis County Fire District Chief Mike Harding. Crews received the call just before 4 p.m., and the collapse is believed to be due to a structural failure, with no explosion involved.

Nine emergency responders were on the scene for about four hours to secure the site and contain the corn that had spilled from the elevator. Additionally, about 2,000 gallons of a non-hazardous liquid were spilled and subsequently cleaned up by the crews.

The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation by structural engineers.
